Walter Elias Disney lahir pada 6 desember 1901 di Chicago, Illinois, Amerika Serikat dan meninggal pada 15 desember 1966 di Burbank, California, Amerika Serikat karna penyakit kanker paru-paru.
Sejak kecil Walt telah menunjukkan ketertarikannya pada seni, Walt sering menjual karya seninya ke tetangga untuk memperoleh tambahan uang. Saat remaja Walt masuk ke McKinley High School di Chicago dan mempelajari seni juga fotografi, Walt mulai menyukai dan menghargai alam liar serta keluarga dan komunitas.
Meski ayahnya adalah seorang yang disiplin dan seringkali tak memiliki uang, namun ibu Walt dan Roy kakaknya yang mendukung Walt untuk mengejar impiannya.
Pada tahun 1918, Walt mendaftar ke wajib militer namun ditolak karna umurnya terlalu kecil. Setelah itu Walt bergabung dengan Red Cross sebagai supir ambulans hingga akhir Perang Dunia I sebelum akhirnya pindah ke Kansas, dimana Walt mulai memproduksi film animasi pertamanya bersama Ub Iwerks di Institut Seni kota Kansas. Namun usaha Walt yang bernama Laugh-O-Grams bangkrut.
Setelah bangkrut, Walt pindah ke Hollywood pada agustus 1923 dengan hanya membawa koper dan uang 20 dollar untuk membuka studio dengan bantuan finansial dari kakaknya. Film pertamanya berjudul Alice Comedy, merupakan serial yang populer tahun 1923-1927. Walt menikahi salah satu pegawainya yaitu Lilian Bounds, dan memiliki 2 anak perempuan yang bernama Diane Marie dan Sharon Mae.
Meski Film Alice Comedy sukses, namun Mickey Mouse merupakan gebrakan kesuksesan Walt dan pengisi suaranya pun dirinya sendiri yang diperkenalkan pada tahun 1928 sebagai kartun bisu "Plane Crazy". Namun di kemudian hari, kecanggihan teknologi membuat Walt menciptakan kartun yang tersinkronisasi dengan suara.
Sejak saat itu Walt meraih kesuksesan demi kesuksesan, hingga akhirnya tahun 1955 Walt resmi membuka taman rianya yang bernama Disneyland di Anaheim, California, Amerika Serikat. Pada awal 1960-an Disney Empire sangatlah sukses, dan Walt Disney Productions merupakan produser paling terkenal di dunia untuk kategori hiburan keluarga pada saat itu.
Kini perusahaan yang didirikannya dikenal sebagai The Walt Disney Company, dan memiliki pendapatan tahunan sekitar $ 35 miliar.

After that Walt joined the Red Cross as an ambulance driver until the end of World War I before moving to Kansas, where Walt began producing its first animated film along with Ub Iwerks at the Kansas City Art Institute. Once bankrupt, Walt moved to Hollywood in August 1923 with only a suitcase and money 20 dollars to open a studio with financial help from his brother.
